The Green Forest of Kurpie is a charming part of Poland. Primeval forests with many nature reserves and rich folk culture are its greatest treasure. The Green Forest is a peaceful and healthy land. It can become a place where you will find rest and recreation in natural surrounding. The folk art of Kurpie is manifested mainly in architecture, ornaments, carving, weving and cut-outs. Ancient customs preserved in songs and dances are cultivated, and local dialect is still used.

The region of Kurpie is interesting as far as scenery is concerned due to large areas of woodlands, verified landscape, numerous rivers and streams, meadows and dunes all concentrated on a relatively small area.

The city of Nowogród, 15 km west of Łomża, is situated on a slope of high hill, near the place where the river Pisa joins the river Narew. Enviroment and landscape are the main assets of the parish. This area is part of the Plains of Kurpie with meadows, fields and forests shaping its characteristic landscape and geographic identity. One side of the Narew is covered with vast woodlands, which are the remains of the former Great Forest of Kurpie. Those woodlands constitue 25 percent of the area of the parish and are a sanctuary of wild pigs, elks and deer, grouse, blakstorks and swans. Old river-beds of Narew swarm with water flow.

The river Pisa and river Narew connect the Vistula with the Great Lakes of Masuria. A canoe trip on the river Biebrza and the river Narew is most attractive as the route crosses the largest bogland in Europe - National Park of the Biebrza. Nowogród is the beginning and the end of many footpaths leading through the Forest of Kurpie. National Day of Culture of Kurpie organized at the beginning of July is a particularly interesting event with performances of folk groups dances and story-telling sessions.
